Connections

How I think about friendships, loneliness, and making real connections in a world that keeps getting more isolated.

“Sixty Days With My Closest Friends. That’s All I Have Left.” did the math that haunts me. If I live another 30 years and see my closest friends about 2 days a year, that is 60 days total. I wrote it because the number hit me hard.

“The Social Collapse” looks at how social time in America has cratered. In 2003, the average American spent three hours a month partying. The numbers now are grim.

Then there is “The Power of a Single Connection,” about how you never really know where one connection will lead. Simple idea, but I have seen it play out in my own life enough times to believe it.

I also wrote “Building Real Friendships Abroad: My Social Funnel Strategy.” Life abroad is not always fun or easier than life back home, and making real friends takes actual effort.

With 6 posts here, I keep adding to this as I figure out how to stay connected to the people who matter.
